In 2019 we began a complete overhaul of our IT infrastructure including reducing the physical footprint of our clients by offering ALMIS Cloud as a secure and performant PAAS solution.

We’re now looking to expand our in-house IT team with a focus on our growing use of Microsoft Azure and the continuing improvement of our cyber security.

Our IT team at ALMIS International look after in-house development and the activities of our analysts and sales and marketing team. They also have an integral part to play in delivering a platform service that delivers cost benefits in terms of scale, performance and security expertise and set-up. This is to meet the regulatory compliance our banking client expect.

This role would suit someone with a Microsoft stack background who already has 2/3 years of experience in a second line role and has an operational understanding of Windows 10, Server 2019 and O365 Administration.

The ideal candidate should also have operational exposure to Microsoft Azure and be aware of modern cyber security methodologies and have a desire to expand their knowledge in those areas.

Chief Operating Officer

And will work from
Home or our ALMIS offices at 7 Canning Street Lane, Edinburgh.

Your role will be to
Work with the IT Systems Manager to support the IT needs of the business.

What you’ll do

  • Day-to-day maintenance and monitoring of our deployed systems and solutions including O365, Azure, Sophos Central, Sophos Optix and Qualys.
  • Maintaining the operational stability and resilience of our network, including VPN and RDS technologies.
  • Assisting the IT Systems Manager with day-to-day support and maintenance work. This will include change requests and user administration from our clients along with installing and updating versions of the ALMIS® software suite and related SQL Server instances.
  • Keep our skill set current to reflect changing legislations and practises in line with the role.
  • Provide full holiday cover when the IT Systems Manager is on leave.

The operational knowledge and administration experience you’ll need

  • Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019.
  • Microsoft’s cloud stack: In-Tune, O365 Suite.
  • Microsoft Azure.

Nice-to-have skills

  • Operational experience of Remote Desktop Services, Gateways and Connection Brokers.
  • Experience with MS SQL 2012 and upwards.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL versions 9 and upwards.
  • Operational and administrative knowledge of Sophos product stack.
  • Active Directory and GPO Management (including policy enumeration and testing).

You should also be

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Have previous experience in a similar role (2+ years) – financial sector experience will be highly beneficial.
  • Flexible outwith normal working hours in case of an emergency.
  • Able to work up to two hours on a Sunday twice a month for patching and out of hours maintenance.
  • Self-driven, with an orientation towards problem analysis and ownership.
  • Tolerant and patient, especially when it comes to client-facing support.
  • Attentive to details, particularly when multi-tasking.

Your pay and conditions

  • The starting salary for the IT Support Engineer will be £40,000 – £50,000 per annum depending on experience.
  • This is a full-time, permanent role based in Edinburgh and you should live within a reasonable commuting distance of our office as you’ll be expected to work on-site, at times, as part of our flexible working approach.
